Supreme Court Hands GOP Huge Win On Landmark Gerrymandering Case

The Supreme Court just handed the Democratic party a devastating loss. This is absolutely huge and could doom the Democrats to irrelevance for years.
Now, to be fair the Democrats gerrymander as well. In fact, our politicians have been playing games with gerrymandering for years.
So why all the fuss now? Simple, the GOP got smart and cleaned the Democrats clock with a designed strategy in 2010 to win state legislatures and governor offices with an eye towards redistricting. The Democrats were asleep at the wheel. So they sued and they just lost. Wow.
From CNN: The Supreme Court said Thursday that federal courts must stay out of disputes over when politicians go too far in drawing district lines for partisan gain — a ruling could fundamentally affect the balance of power in state legislatures and Congress.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the 5-4 decision for the conservative majority.
The court was asked to consider when politicians go too far in drawing lines for partisan gain in a set of cases arising from North Carolina and Maryland.
The North Carolina case was brought by Democrats challenging Republican-drawn maps, while the Maryland case was brought by Republicans challenging a Democratic map.
From The Hill: The justices made the ruling in a pair of cases presented over district maps in Maryland and North Carolina, alleged to be instances of unconstitutional partisan gerrymanders.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the court’s majority opinion that federal courts cannot consider such challenges.
The opinion vacates previous rulings on the district maps in Maryland and North Carolina, and requests that the cases be dismissed “for lack of jurisdiction.”
The split ruling was along ideological lines.
